Day 6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper?

Erm, it really depends. The only thing I really require is some sort of background noise, be that a TV show, music, or a school lecture I should be listening to but am not. Haha. Generally I prefer typing to writing, but not always. Lately I've been working on a short story in a notebook in classes or if I get to work way early. And there's not a time of day I prefer, but it does really depend on mood and inspiration... and what I've been reading/watching lately... eh.

-- I'm doing this on ST now too. So copy&paste.

I'm hoping to try writing an entry for the Major Arcana challenge at ST today, but I only have a little more than an hour and I'm feeling nap-like anyway, so who knows how that'll go. I guess I'll have time after work probably. But eh.

Enough rambling here. That's not earning me any more time.

dude!

Day 5. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about “youngest” and “oldest” in terms of when you created them?

By age, this is a tricky question to answer. Aerlun and Daemien are both young at the beginning of their stories. But by the end, they're the oldest in a way; they live three lifetimes, hundreds of years apart. Aerlun is ten at the beginning of his story, and Daemien is around fourteen. Kayden is the youngest at the end of his story; he'll be about twenty after the events of Blood and Heat. And once I finish the current short story I'm trying to work on, I'll start a book centering around the main character Roren's kids, but I haven't developed them yet; I just know they'll be in their early teens, they'll be named Rory and Darian, they'll be male and female twins, and Rory (the girl) will be the source and Darian will be the channeler. As for the oldest by age, that could be Aerlun and Daemien or it could be Grey, who is 26. And that's not including fandom characters. In Elemental Force, Naizhen is 16, so she could also count as youngest.

Youngest and oldest in terms of creation are much easier. Aerlun is easily the oldest still in use. Roren is the youngest who has been actually developed, though his kids are sort of twinklings in my eye, lol -- I guess you could say they're still in the womb, so to speak.

Yeah I'm weird.

So last night... )

Day 4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!

Got longer than I intended... fun to reflect! )

Er yeah. I have enough money for rent but not for electric. I have tomorrow off. My brother is insane. I guess that's it.

I should be doing homework. But this is more fun!

3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?

I put together random syllables until I come up with something I like. Usually I have some feeling for how the name should sound--long or short, harsh or soft. Sometimes I find something good quickly, but other times I just can't be satisfied. I've been known to change a name after a while because it just never really felt right. But I've come up with some weird ones. Lately, I'm trying to concentrate on making sure they're pronounceable.

Day 2 : How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?

I have a bazillion characters. No really. I make them up as I go along. I'm not the sort of person who keeps character profiles for a set assortment of characters and reuses them all the time. The characters that I have had for a while are attached permanently to stories, so I've had them a while because I've had the stories for a while.

Now, if I'm going to count the major characters I have at the moment for stories--characters that mean something to me--then there are 7 very major ones (Aerlun and Daemien from Eysuria, Grey and Kayden from Somnion, Kale and Naizhen who are my originals from my Zelda fanfic, and the newest and still underdeveloped Roren) and 3 less major ones (Aura and Kai from Somnion, Raddek from the Plague in Thrace roleplay). But I guess that's really it in terms of characters that matter to me at the moment. I have had others in the past, though. And, to be honest, Aerlun and Daemien are three characters each, but for the purposes of this I chose not to include their counterparts. I also didn't include fandom canons that I adore.

Um, is there an end to the rambling in sight? Yes. Males make up the majority of my characters, and that is all.

I would like to stab school with a spork though.

Think this will get me to post all month long?

30 day writing meme )

Day 1: Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you've worked with and why.

Now that's a toughie. The world I can never let go is Eysuria, but it's also the most frustrating.

I think the one writing project I've had the most fun and least frustration with (despite attempting to write it like 5 times now) is my Legend of Zelda fanfic, Elemental Force. In some ways, I like fanfiction more than original writing. It's a challenge to create a new story that fits the canon of the original one, particularly if you're like me and you like to stretch canon to its limits to create something really interesting. But it's also easier to have a pre-defined world. My problem with original fiction seems to be that there's too much room for change, too many directions I can go, and I have trouble sticking to one.

Anyway, if I ever get around to actually writing EF all the way through, it's probably my one story with a defined plot that I'm not going to have to stop and wonder about halfway through, and that eases a lot of frustration, leaving just fun behind.

First a meme, since I haven't done one in ages if I've done one at all...

Name a fandom you know I know and I'll tell you:
1. The first character I first fell in love with
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer
6. The character I would shag anytime
7. The character I'd want to be like
8. The character I'd slap
9. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

If you put it in your journal, poke me and I'll go give you a fandom to answer me about.
